Brush Making Machine

Brushes are used in a variety of applications, including cleaning, polishing and deburring, to name just a few. In order to be able to produce brushes of different shapes and sizes, manufacturers need to use the right machine to do so. The right brush making machine will make this process both fast and efficient, while also ensuring that quality standards are met. A good machine will allow for the production of brushes with a variety of different diameters and lengths, as well as providing an excellent finish to the product.

The present invention provides a brush making machine which can be operated at high speed to produce a greater percentage yield of quality brushes. The brush tufting machine can be used with various filament materials such as steel wire, synthetic fibers and natural fibers such as hair. In addition, the machine can be operated with a variety of anchor types.

In the example shown in FIG. 1, a set of brush holders 10 and 12 are provided each of which holds two brush backs in side-by-side relation. Each of the brush holders has a pattern of tufting holes extending therethrough. A locating block 19 includes a series of apertures which correspond to the pattern of the tufting holes in the brush holders. During the course of a cycle of operation, the table 14 is shifted to operate upon one of the brush backs retained in the holders 10 and 12. The pointer 17 engages an aperture in the locating block 19 each time that the table 14 is shifted. An electrically operated cam shift is responsive to the engagement of the pointer so that the tuft deflector rotates counterclockwise when the table 14 is shifted. When the tuft deflector is rotated in this manner, the brush back which is being operated upon, such as back 23 in FIG. 2, is tufted with bristles. The tufting deflector is then returned by the solenoid 182 to its original position by suitable spring biasing of the solenoid.
